Apple Mac Mail OS X 10.5 email account setup

Please note that we need to setup the email account initially on the mail server before the following steps can take place.

Apple Mac Mail email account setup is fairly straight forward if you do not have an existing email account setup.

If you already have an existing Apple Mac Mail email account, then you would follow the same steps listed to add the new one.

Email account setup instructions

Open Mac Mail, go to the menu and select File then select Add Account. This will open the account creation assistant.

On the Add Account window, enter your full name, email address and password. Click Continue when you have finished.

On the Incoming Mail Server window, enter the following details (look to the right of the image for text details) and click Continue to go to the next step.

On the Incoming Mail Server window, enter the following Account Type, Description, Incoming Mail Server and logon information:


	User Information
	Description:	Your Name
	Email Address:	yourname@yourdomain.com

	Server Information
	Incoming mail server (POP3):	mail.yourdomain.com
	Outgoing mail server (SMTP):	mail.optusnet.com.au*
	* Your Internet Service Provider's mail server. The example used is for OptusNet.

	Logon Information
	Account Type:	IMAP
	User Name:	yourname@yourdomain.com
	Password:	• • • •

On the Incoming Mail Security window, leave the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) tick box unchecked and click Continue to proceed.

On the Outgoing Mail Server window, enter the following details (look above for text details) and make sure to tick Use Authentication, then click Continue.

On the Account Summary window, review the account settings you have selected and click Create to complete setup.
